How to avoid traffic tickets: Campbell River RCMP

The Campbell River RCMP is offering some important information to drivers around town.

It’s all to help avoid being stopped for traffic infractions this summer.

“While some of these tips may seem like common sense, it doesn’t seem to be as common as one would think,” says Constable Maury Tyre. “In a two-hour tour around town, I was able to witness people breaking most of these rules.”

Tyre’s first tip comes after getting into your car.

He says to ensure that your speedometer, headlights, tail lights and blinkers are all working.

Tyre then says to “look for signs on the side of the road with numbers on them. The white signs with black numbers will tell you how fast you are allowed to go. Match the number on the signs to the number on your speedometer to ensure you are not speeding.”

“Follow the speed limit until you see another white sign with black numbers that advises you of a different speed limit,” Tyre says. “This is especially important for work zones, don’t speed up until you see a new sign.”

He’s advising you to avoid using a cell phone while driving, and, if you’re without a licence, don’t drive at all.

Tyre adds that “having open alcohol or driving a car that smells like it was used to ‘hot box’ marijuana is a great way to catch the attention of an officer.”
