Funding supports training at NIC for Port Alice workers

The Ministry of Advanced Education is helping out workers affected by the Neucel mill suspension in Port Alice.

North Island College will be receiving a $150,000 grant from the Ministry. The school will use the money to offer training and retraining for workers at the mill.

We caught up with the Minister of Advanced Education Andrew Wilkinson. He says this is a great opportunity for the skilled workers in Port Alice.

Wilkinson adds the Jobs Ministry normally helps in situations like this, but the Ministry of Advanced Education wanted to make sure there was a training and retraining program for those workers affected by the Neucel mill suspension in Port Alice.

The funding is aligned with BC’s Skills for Jobs Blueprint, which supports towns and retrains workers affected by industry slowdowns or closures.
