Discovery Passage Aquarium to reopen next week

Campbell River’s Discovery Passage Aquarium is reopening its doors.

Starting June 27th, it will be operating from 10:00am to 5:00pm every day until early September.

The aquarium says its top priority is the health and wellbeing of staff, volunteers, and visitors.

“Over the previous month, we have been developing safety plans to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in the Aquarium and Explorer Lab. As Phase 2 of the BC Restart Plan progresses, we will continue to take direction from the B.C. Ministry of Health and Provincial Health Officer.”

When visiting the aquarium this summer, you’ll see enhanced cleaning practices, a reduced visitor capacity, and a school of socially-distant salmon emblazoned on the floor to help you visualize two meters of distance.

“You can also expect to see a new team of interpreters eager to share their knowledge of marine ecosystems with you.”

In order to keep animals safe from the risk of contamination of residual chemicals from hand sanitizers and soaps, touch tanks will be an ‘eyes only’ exhibit this season.
