‘Amazingly lucky’ no one seriously hurt after head-on crash in Oyster River

Police are asking you to take extra care on the roads this week, in the wake of a head-on crash just south of Campbell River.

It happened Sunday afternoon near Oyster River.

A vehicle was in the turn lane waiting to go into the Discovery Foods when it was hit by a vehicle heading in the opposite direction, that had crossed the centre line.

The vehicle that was looking to turn flipped over while the other one struck a third vehicle.

Two people were taken to Comox Hospital with minor injuries and a third was transported to Campbell River Hospital, also with minor injuries.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this accident, said Campbell River RCMP Const. Maury Tyre.

“The northbound driver who caused the collision was charged with driving without care as a result of the collision,” Tyre added.

“We were amazingly lucky that nobody was seriously injured or killed as a result of the crash.”

Tyre said the Campbell River RCMP “would like to remind the public to take extra care as they venture back out on the roads this summer.

“It could save a life, and that life could be yours.”

Tyre added that the responding officers were “extremely impressed with the excellent work and care taken by (members of) the Oyster River Fire Department and wanted to ensure that the public is aware of the amazing professionalism of the firefighters that serve them.”

“There were also members of the public on scene that immediately rendered first aid at the risk of their own well being,” Tyre said. “Truly showing the wonderful kind of people that live and volunteer in our communities”
