Pier Street Farmers Market reopening this Sunday

The Pier Street Farmers Market is reopening this weekend, but it won’t be at its usual spot at Campbell River’s pier.

This summer, you’ll find it at the parking lot on Cedar Street, across from the Community Centre, in order to meet provincial health standards.

“I am delighted to be able to support our local farmers with the opening of the market,” said the market’s manager, Reid King. “There is a lot of space in this new location. It is perfect to accommodate physical distancing while offering the public a wide selection of vendors.”

The market will feature local produce, meats, wine, liquor (no tasters) as well as some hygiene-related products like soaps, hand sanitizers, masks and some artisan products.

Starting July 5th, the market will run on Sundays from 10:00am to 1:30pm until Sept. 20th.

It’s being run by the Pier Street Market and the City of Campbell River.

Social distancing requirements will be in place at the market.

On March 27th, the Provincial Health Officer declared farmers Markets an essential service.

“Council realizes the importance of food security in our community,” said Mayor Andy Adams. “This is a great way to ensure residents can access locally-grown produce and support local farmers and businesses.”
