City of Campbell River continuing to expand fitness opportunities

More outdoor fitness classes are coming to Campbell River.

City council made the decision to increase service levels, which will allow the city to offer more classes to help meet the growing demand from the fitness community.

“Outdoor fitness classes are proving to be popular,” says fitness supervisor Mary Fast. “The first two weeks were quickly filled to the point where we had waitlists.”

Fast says people are participating not only for a full-body workout, but to re-establish a sense of personal connection with others.

Currently, six classes are offered per week, Monday through Thursday.

“I think we’re just in time for the good weather,” says city manager Deborah Sargent. “All of these classes are built on the provincial health recommendations for safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and what better place to do that than in our great outdoors.”

Sargent adds that the city is also preparing to book use of parks and fields.

“Just a quick note, the Campbell River Tennis Club has booked their first court for July 16th,” she says. “So I think it’s official, it actually is summer now.”
