Project aims to share stories of Campbell River seniors

A Campbell River youth project is aimed at preserving local seniors’ legacies, one story at a time.

Coast2Chronicle, supported by [email protected] Campbell River, is sharing the stories of seniors in Campbell River.

“I wanted to start this project to listen to and amplify seniors’ stories,” said Coast2Chronicle coordinator Lokman Wong.

“Too often, their stories are lost and it is through learning about others’ experiences that we are led to new opportunities and revelations about the world.”

Through interviews and portraits, the project hopes to honour seniors’ contributions to the community, nation, and world and pass on their wisdom while decreasing stigma between generations.

“Now more than ever, it is important to show seniors we care for them by listening to their story,” said Volunteer Campbell River’s youth engagement coordinator, Sarah Robinson.

“Their collective histories and experiences are sources of wisdom and hearing their story is one way to show appreciation for their sacrifices and contributions.”

Interviews will be conducted in-person following social distancing guidelines or virtually via Zoom.

Stories will be shared on Facebook and Instagram. Interested volunteers can email [email protected] for more details.
