Big donation from Tim Hortons kicks off 2020 Christmas Hamper Fund

With the holiday season approaching, The Knights Of Columbus are once again gearing up to make Christmas a little merrier for Campbell River’s less fortunate.

For 47 years now, they’ve been helping struggling individuals and families around town and in surrounding areas through their Community Christmas Hamper Fund.

And, to help kick things off for the 2020 season, all three Tim Hortons locations in Campbell River came together to raise a total of $7,812 for the fund through Smile Cookie sales.

The Knights of Columbus are sending out a big thank-you to franchise owners Dave and Cathy Paquin, their management teams and all staff for their donation and continued support through the years.

They’re also thanking the public for purchasing the Smile Cookies.

In light of COVID-19, spokesperson Kevin Gearey says organizers are gearing up for a year unlike any other, so the donation will go a long way.

There are going to be some big changes this year, Gearey says, the first being where those in need can pick up an application form.

He says forms will be available for pick-up at the Hamper Fund office, located inside the former True Blue Pet store in Tyee Plaza on Shopper’s Row.

The office is set to open its doors on November 16th. It will be open Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. In December, office hours will be extended to 5:00 pm.

Application forms will also be available for pick-up at the Campbell River Food Bank, but Gearey says all completed forms must be returned to the Hamper Fund office in order to be processed.

Along with the usual in-person donations of money, new toys, gifts, and non-perishable food items, Gearey adds cash donations will also be accepted online this year.

“During this pandemic, some members of our community might be hesitant to leave their residence any more than is necessary. For others, our office hours or location are not convenient for them to donate.”
