BC SPCA in Campbell River seeks help with influx of guinea pigs

The BC SPCA in Campbell River needs your help, after it welcomed a large intake of guinea pigs.

Manager Stephanie Arkwright says 20 guinea pigs were surrendered to the branch earlier this week, and staff are expecting at least 25 more in the next few days.

“We are working with an individual who has become overwhelmed with the number of guinea pigs in his home and has agreed to surrender them to the SPCA so that they can get the proper care that they need,” Arkwright says.

She’s now calling on the local community to help by donating supplies. Staff are in need of water bottles, guinea pig treats, small-animal litter boxes, flat sheets, empty toilet or paper towel rolls, and grocery store gift cards to purchase vegetables.

All the animals are coming into the Campbell River branch for intake and initial assessment, but Arkwright adds that some will eventually be transferred to SPCA locations in Vancouver, West Vancouver, Abbotsford and the Tri-Cities for adoption.

If you can help, get in touch with the Campbell River SPCA at (250) 287-7766, or email [email protected].
