RCMP report includes robbery, mistaken handgun call, lead-footed driver

A busy and eventful week for the Campbell River RCMP.

They included a robbery at a pizza restaurant, calls of a handgun that turned out to be something entirely different, and a short police pursuit that had to be called off for public safety reasons.

Little Caesars robbery

On Nov. 9th, someone used a replica handgun to rob the Little Caesars Pizza restaurant at Merecroft Village.

The suspect is described as a tall, skinny, Caucasian man in his 40s, with a curly black mullet.

He ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Campbell River RCMP is asking for any witnesses to call them.

High-speed chase called off

Around 2:30am on Nov. 12th, police tried to pull over a burgundy Chevrolet pickup at Park Rd and the North Island Highway.

The truck took off northbound at a high rate of speed and the pursuit had to be called off for public safety reasons.

Police are looking for a driver with a chinstrap beard and olive complexion.

Canada revenue scam

On Nov. 13th, another person fell victim to a Canada Revenue/Service Canada scam.

The RCMP is reminding you that police will not come to your door to arrest you for errors made on your tax account.

If you receive a call from Canada Revenue demanding money, simply hang up.

Man arrested

Just before noon on Nov. 13th, police responded to a report of a female being held against her will in the 500 block of Cedar St.

One man was arrested and taken into custody.

Handgun turned out to be a bong

In the things-are-not-what-they-seem department, police responded to a call of a handgun being passed around in a car parked behind the Save-On-Foods on Nov. 13th.

The gun turned out to be a bong.

One person was arrested at the time of the incident for unrelated criminal acts.

Attempted break-ins to homes, cars

On Sunday at around 11:00pm, police responded to a report of people trying door handles of homes and cars on Country Aire Drive.

The suspects are connected to an older red hatchback.

Anyone in the area who has information or video of similar instances around that time is asked to call the RCMP.

Anyone with information on these and other crimes is asked to call the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or in an emergency call 911.
