Knights’ Christmas Hamper applications due today

DEC. 6th UPDATE: The application deadline has now been extended. More info here.

The application deadline for the Knights of Columbus Community Christmas Hamper Fund is less than 24 hours away.

All applications need to be in by 5:00 pm today (Sat., Dec. 5th).

For nearly half a century, the Knights have been helping struggling Campbell Riverites and those in surrounding areas by delivering hampers filled with goods just in time for Christmas.

With the ongoing pandemic, spokesperson Kevin Gearey says some big changes came into play this year, the first being where those in need can pick up an application form.

“This year, somehow, the numbers are down and I don’t know why,” Geary says. “Perhaps it’s because the location of the place where people were picking up application forms in previous years has changed.”

The application form pick-up location is now at the Hamper Fund office, located inside the former True Blue pet store in Tyee Plaza on Shopper’s Row. The office is open from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm.

Application forms are also available for pick-up at the Campbell River Food Bank, but Gearey says all completed forms must be returned to the Hamper Fund office in order to be processed.

For those who aren’t in need of a hamper, but would like to donate, Geary adds donations of money, new toys, gifts, and non-perishable food items are encouraged. You can drop off donations at the office. He says cash donations are also accepted online this year.
