Campbell River Emergency Services charity check stop resounding success

A big lift for the Knights of Columbus Christmas Hamper drive, thanks to local firefighters and police officers.

The Campbell River RCMP and Campbell River Fire Department joined forces with the organization last Saturday for a Covid Safe Charity Event.

Over four hours, people donated two-and-a-half truckloads of non perishable food and toys as well as $2300 cash.

RCMP Const. Maury Tyre says the community’s generosity shone through.

“On behalf of Campbell River’s emergency services I’d really like to applaud the community,” Tyre said.

“We know it’s been a hard year for many people in the community and it’s great to see the rally of support for those less fortunate. It was especially appreciated for local radio and media to hype the event for us and ensure an outstanding turnout.”

More good news came from the province, which is supporting drive-thru charity events like the one held over the weekend moving forward.

Application deadline Dec. 9th

The application deadline for the Knights of Columbus Community Christmas Hamper Fund is just around the corner.

You have until tomorrow (Dec. 9th) at 5:00pm to apply for help.

For 47 years, the Knights have been helping struggling individuals and families in Campbell River and surrounding areas by delivering hampers filled with goods just before Christmas.

Forms are now available for pick-up at the Hamper Fund office, located inside the former True Blue pet store in Tyee Plaza on Shopper’s Row. Click here to find Tyee Plaza on Google Maps.

It’s open Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Application forms are also available for pick-up at the Campbell River Food Bank, but all completed forms must be returned to the Hamper Fund office in order to be processed.

For those who aren’t in need of a hamper, but would like to donate,  donations of money, new toys, gifts, and non-perishable food items are encouraged. Cash donations are accepted online this year.
