The City of Campbell River is backing a plan to advance the heritage status of two well-known properties.
Sybil’s Cottage in Willow Point and the Haig Brown Heritage House near Elk Falls have been lasting landmarks around town.

After consultations with the local Museum, the Sybil Andrews Heritage Society, and the Community Planning Advisory Committee, council has decided to endorse a plan to speed up the process.
“These two properties are among the most significant publicly-owned heritage buildings in Campbell River,” the City says.
Currently, Haig Brown has no heritage status and Sybil Andrews is on the Community Heritage Register.
Council can choose to recognize the heritage significance of both properties by designating the properties as heritage sites. Council can also choose to add Haig Brown to the Community Heritage Register.
The City says advancing heritage status helps to ensure the properties are protected by the highest level of recognition the City can provide, adding that council will review a draft bylaw on February 8th.
