The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating a Sunday evening incident on Quadra Island.
The IIO says police received reports of someone creating a ‘disturbance’ in the 400-block of Spruce Place shortly before 7:00 pm yesterday.
When the RCMP arrived, the suspect was reportedly in possession of a weapon and didn’t comply with police direction. The Emergency Response Team attended, and the suspect was arrested with help from a police service dog.
According to the IIO, the suspect sustained a ‘serious dog bite injury’ while being taken into custody. Police provided medical assistance until an ambulance arrived to transport them to a hospital for treatment.
At this time, the IIO says it’s asking anyone with relevant information about the incident to call their Witness Line toll-free at 1 (855) 446-8477, or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
