The City of Campbell River’s annual Stewardship Awards is back for its 20th year. Staff is now putting out a call for nominations, seeking locals working to preserve the natural beauty around town.
Until Sept. 10, the City says individuals, groups, businesses, industry representatives, and youth who have contributed to the common cause of environmental stewardship can be nominated in a handful of categories.
Air quality and alternative transportation, pesticide-free and urban agriculture, water and energy conservation, habitat protection and creation, waste reduction, youth special recognition, and environmental excellence highlight this year’s category list.
According to Mayor Andy Adams, “The City’s Stewardship Awards provide an opportunity to honour citizen dedication to conservation, and for ongoing work to improve the beauty and health of our local environment.”
To celebrate this year’s award recipients, a special ceremony is set for Sept. 26th on the banks of the Campbell River at historic Haig Brown House. It’s all part of their ‘Fall Festival’ and ‘River’s Day’ celebrations. “The day will be filled with live music, nature and history-based programming, food, and vendors,” the City adds.
Nomination forms can be found on the City’s website. Paper copies are also available at City Hall or online here. For more information regarding stewardship recognition, email [email protected] or call at (250) 286-5711.
