Drivers trying to cross the John Hart Dam over the next few weeks will have to take an alternative route. Starting today, Sept. 20th, closures abound on weekdays for Brewster Lake Road.
The road will be closed off on either side of the dam from Sept. 20th to 24th, Sept. 27th to Oct. 1st, and Oct. 4th to 8th, from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
BC Hydro spokesperson, Stephen Watson says closures are needed for crews to move equipment around on the road deck and safely conduct annual maintenance work to the three John Hart Dam spillway gates.
“This year the planned cycle of maintenance work is more extensive. This work ensures ongoing spillway gate reliability, including during flood risk management operations this fall and winter,” Watson says.
Temporary road closure signage is now posted on either side of the dam, as well as off Highway 28 closer to town, Watson adds. During the road closure periods, he says drivers are asked to follow the alternative route of Highway 19A.
