UPDATE: Monday morning rockslide closes stretch of Highway 28

A rockslide on Highway 28 between Campbell River and Gold River has left a stretch of road along Upper Campbell Lake down to single lane alternating traffic.

Just after midnight this morning (Oct. 4), DriveBC said its crews were en route after reports of rocks on the highway near Cedar Creek Rd., 27 kilometres west of Campbell River.

At around 2:30 am, DriveBC said the stretch was closed in both directions, with an assessment in progress and delays expected. Another update just before 3:30 am indicated that one lane had reopened for drivers.

UPDATE: At 11:00 am, DriveBC said the highway was “CLEAR” with delays expected to remain due to congestion in the area.
