New proposed commercial, residential developments get green light from city council

More new developments are coming to Campbell River. Following Monday’s (Oct. 4) city council meeting, council gave the green light for two developments that will bring four commercial units and 37 residential units to town.

At 1630 16th Ave. in Campbellton, across from the Campbell River Bowling Alley, Jena Developments LTD proposed a commercial development on a vacant plot of land, consisting of one building divided into four units, equal in square footage.

According to developers, the building is envisioned for commercial or light-industrial businesses requiring small display or sales areas in the front, with shop or storage space accessed by the bays at the rear.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Handyside Development Corp. proposed a 37-unit multi-family development located at 1050 and 1090 Evergreen Rd. The empty plots of land are in the Quinsam Heights neighbourhood, across from the BC Transit building.

This proposal is a mix of duplexes, triplexes, 4-, 6- and 8-unit townhouse buildings, in the form of a bareland strata. Developers say the homes will fit in well with the primarily residential neighbourhood that surrounds.

“Every council meeting now, council is looking at new developments,” city manager Deborah Sargent tells My Campbell River Now.

She continues, “It’s nice to see a combination of multi-family as well as commercial developments being approved.”

There’s no word on when construction with start for either project.
