‘Excited is an understatement’: Mt. Washington set to open Dec. 10

Grab your skis or snowboard. The slopes at Mount Washington Alpine Resort are set to reopen for the winter season next month.

In a Sunday Facebook post, the resort said its crews are actively gearing up for winter operations, scheduled to begin on Friday, Dec. 10.

“To say we’re all excited is an understatement,” the resort said.

“The cold weather appears to be here to stay, but that means it’s also time for your yearly reminder to please stay off all Mount Washington property until the horn sounds that we’re open.”

In the midst of a pandemic, while it does “strongly encourage” guests to be immunized against COVID-19, Mount Washington says proof of vaccination is not required for people to recreate outdoors.

However, through the 2021-22 season, guests are required to show their proof at sit-down dining establishments, including Ted’s Bar & Grill.

“Similar guidelines apply to events and programs offering food and beverage. Masks are required in all public indoor settings for all people born in 2009 or earlier,” states a post on the resort’s website.

As well, it says all Mount Washington employees, volunteers and contractors must provide proof of vaccination.

“While the COVID-19 situation is fluid, we greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation following all Provincial Health Orders and encourage you to check this page for updates prior to your visit,” the resort adds.

According to the latest Alpine Snow Report, around 11 cm of snow fell overnight on Mount Washington, with another 46 cm expected to fall over the next 48 hours.
