Community Christmas Hamper Fund returns for 48th year

A Campbell River tradition soon returns. The Knight of Columbus Community Christmas Hamper Fund is marking its 48th consecutive year.

Rallying together locals and some holiday cheer, the Knights look to provide hampers to well over a thousand households in Campbell River and surrounding areas just in time for Christmas.

In all, 1050 hampers will be packed with food for Christmas Day and beyond, with 700 also including new gifts for kids and seniors.

According to organizer Kevin Gearey, the 2021 season gets underway this Monday (Nov. 15). That’s when the Knights will start collecting donations both online and in person.

Money, non-perishable food and new gift donations can be dropped off at their hamper donation office at Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre, near Spinners.

This month, the office is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm, and in December, it’s open an hour later until 5 pm.

Locals in need of a hamper are also invited to pick up a registration form between those hours.

Forms will be available at the Campbell River Food Bank and the Income Assistance Ministry as well, but all completed forms must be returned to the Knights’ donation office.

2021 hamper delivery day is set for Saturday, Dec. 18. Organizers say more details will be made available in the coming weeks for those hoping to help deliver hampers this year.
