Campbell River RCMP looking for suspect after attempted robbery

Campbell River RCMP are asking the public for help finding a suspect after a teenage girl was pushed and an attempted robbery occurred on Monday in the 300 block of the Island Highway.

The incident took place at around 2:35 pm as the female was walking on a laneway just off the highway.

RCMP say the male suspect tried to steal the female’s backpack and pushed her from behind.

The female fell and got tangled in some bushes with her backpack and then the male left the scene.

‘It’s important to remember that these types of incidents involving complete strangers are very rare in Campbell River,” said Campbell River RCMP Cst Maury Tyre. However it’s still worthwhile for people to walk in pairs when they can and stick to well travelled paths to minimize risks.”

The suspect is described as Caucasian and 5 ft. 10 with a broad build.

RCMP say he was wearing black jeans and a black rain shell at the time of the incident.
