UPDATE: Thousands without power in Campbell River

UPDATE: BC Hydro now says the outage is affecting 1,988 customers south of Hwy. 19, east-west of Island Hwy., and north 9th Ave. A bird contracting wires is to blame. Crews are currently on scene and the power should be restored by 5:30 pm.

Another day, another power outage in Campbell River.

BC Hydro says a total of 2,150 customers in town, west of Crow Rd., have been without power since 12:32 this afternoon (Dec. 7).

The company’s outage map highlights areas in and around downtown, Campbellton and Campbell River north impacted by this outage.

However, crews have been assigned to restore the power with the cause now under investigation.

Meanwhile, BC Hydro crews continue their efforts to get the power back over on Cortes Island, north of Hewitt Rd. and west of Tiber Bay Rd.

It’s been off since 3:06 am yesterday, Dec. 6, with the recent snowstorm to blame, leaving a total of 325 customers in the dark overnight.
