COVID-19 cases rise locally: BCCDC

COVID-19 case numbers are on an upward trend locally, according to the latest BC Centre for Disease Control Local Health Area Map.

From Jan. 2 to 8, the BCCDC points to 160 active cases in Campbell River, 239 in the Comox Valley and 54 on the North Island.

The prior week, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, Campbell River had 76 active COVID-19 cases, while the Comox Valley and the North Island had 169 and 29, respectively.

The BCCDC updates its Health Area Map every Wednesday.

In Campbell River, to limit the spread of the virus, city officials say they’re increasing measures for city staff within the workplace to reduce the likelihood of transmission.

“These measures include, but are not limited to, re-activating COVID-19 safety plans, mandatory mask policies, physical distancing practices and holding meetings virtually (where possible),” stated a Thursday, Jan. 14 release.

“As a result of these increased measures, there may be future service delivery changes, which will be communicated on the city’s website. Additionally, the city wishes to remind residents and businesses that many city services are accessible online or over the phone.”

To learn more about accessing city services online or over the phone, locals can contact City Hall reception at (250) 286-5700 or [email protected].
