Campbell River getting new traffic lights and crosswalk

A new set of traffic lights are being placed at the South Dogwood Street and South Alder Street intersection.

“Replacing the existing stop sign with traffic lights will provide a safer way to enter and exit the Jubilee Heights area,” said Jason Locke, the City of Campbell River’s long-range planning and sustainability manager. “This work will be done in stages, so drivers won’t see active construction each day during this time.”

A flashing amber light crosswalk is also being set up at the South Dogwood Street and Erickson Road intersection.

These projects are expected to be finished in around a month.

Lanes may be closed temporarily while the work is being completed.

“People should expect minor traffic delays at these intersections during construction and, if possible, please consider using an alternative route,” said Locke. “Drivers are reminded to proceed with caution in the work area, and we thank everyone in advance for their patience during this construction.”

The contract for the work was $187,575 for the traffic lights and $19,690 for the crosswalk and went to Daeco Installations Ltd.

ICBC, Couverdon Real Estate and the City of Campbell River are financing the projects.
