Steelhead LNG pipeline a bad idea, according to Georgia Strait Alliance

The Executive Director of the Georgia Strait Alliance says plans for an underwater 128-km pipeline to carry natural gas to the Island is a bad idea.

Steelhead LNG is working with a US pipeline company on the project, which would supply the LNG facility they want to develop with the Malahat First Nation.

Christianne Wilhelmson says the two projects will mean increased activity in the Salish Sea that could put orcas in danger…and jeopardize the environment.

Wilhelmson says there needs to be more discussions around investing in green energy…rather than relying on fossil fuels to bolster the economy.
