Volunteer Campbell River and Campbell River chamber holding reconciliation workshops

Volunteer Campbell River and the Campbell River and District Chamber of Commerce have scheduled free spring workshops focused on reconciliation.

The first session will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. over Zoom and will focus on how businesses and non-profit organizations can respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action.

An anti-racism response training series will also take place online on April 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“These workshops provide an opportunity for community members, volunteers and staff of local organizations and businesses to explore reconciliation and racism in our community,” said Mary Catherine Williams of Volunteer Campbell River in a news release.

“The goal of this project is to build an understanding of the past and how it impacts the present, and to increase community-wide commitment for creating a brighter future for all.”

There are also sessions on Indigenous values, residential schools and assimilation at an undecided location on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and virtually on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A workshop on improving engagement with Indigenous people from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be held at an undetermined venue.
