MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre taking steps to prevent avian flu transmission

The MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre is taking steps to prevent avian flu transmission.

The centre is increasing biosecurity measures and will be buying more protective equipment and cleaning supplies.

MARS is suggesting that residents remove backyard bird feeders and bird baths and says removing bird feeders will help to reduce transmission in the general bird population.

Every bird species is susceptible to the avian flu, but raptors and corvids are most likely to become severely sick and die from the virus.

The centre is asking anyone who brings an injured bird to MARS, to remain in their vehicle and staff will retrieve the bird.
