Police Asking for Help to Return Stolen Indigenous Art

Campbell River RCMP are hoping to locate some art that was stolen from a local charity over the May long weekend.

The missing pieces are a framed print of a grizzly by Brent J. Smith and a hand-painted drum of canoers by Greg Henderson, both of Indigenous artistic style.

Constable Maury Tyre says they’re hoping the thieves can redirect their moral compass, as the charity is really just trying to get its art back.

“The art can be returned no questions asked at this time, but if it comes down to the police completing the investigation and finding someone in possession of the missing pieces of art, charges could end up being sought for possession of property obtained by crime,” Tyre says.

He says the art can be returned with no questions asked, but the thieves could face charges if police finish their investigation first.

The art can be returned to the Campbell River RCMP detachment. You can also give them a call if you have any information on the case at 250-286-6221.
