RCMP embracing crime reduction strategies

In 2005, crime reduction strategies were introduced to police detachments on Vancouver Island.

The goal was to reduce crime on the streets and to apprehend prolific offenders.

But what exactly is a prolific offender? Comox Valley RCMP Constable Don Sinclair says it’s someone who has a history of committing the same type of crime, among other things.

In the past 12 months, the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit has located and arrested 448 people on outstanding warrants and have over 100 contacts related to 26 known prolific offenders.

If you would like to report any suspicious activity in your area, contact your local RCMP.
