Alaskan quake hits

A tsunami warning for Alaska has been issued by American authorities after a 8.0 earthquake struck off of the coast of Alaska.

The quake struck in the Pacific 48 kilometres North West of Amchitka, Alaska. Reports say a Tsunami has not been confirmed.

Emergency Management BC is evaluating any potential threat to BC’s coast but the protective services coordinator for the Strathcona Regional District and Emergency Program Coordinator for the City of Campbell River, Howie Siemens, says this all happened over 2,000 kilometers away from Vancouver Island but they are taking the situation very seriously.

Siemens says today’s quake off Alaska shows the importance of emergency preparation.
