Up to 10 centimetres of snow to come Friday

The Comox Valley and Campbell River could see another dump of snow heading into the weekend.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is expecting snowfall amounts of 10 centimetres at higher elevations as a low-pressure system approaches tonight.

They say precipitation will start off as rain, before becoming mixed with snow at sea level this morning. The snow is expected to change back to rain on Saturday.

As of Friday morning, the Comox Valley is expected to have a low tonight of two degrees, and have winds between 30 kilometres per hour and 50 kilometres per hour gusting to 70 near the ocean.

Conditions are forecast to be similar in Campbell River.

Environment Canada says the rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations, and visibility could suddenly be reduced.

They ask drivers to turn on their headlights and keep a safe following distance.
