UPDATE 8:10 pm: Road fully reopened.
Highway 28 is fully closed just west of Campbell River.
Mainroad North Island Contracting says the issue is caused by multiple downed trees and power lines.
The affected spot is about 12 km west of Campbell River. Mainroad is asking that you stay home and avoid the area.
Traffic is anticipated to be allowed through the area at around 5 pm today – expected to open first to single lane alternating traffic.
Mainroad is also asking that drivers respect roadside crews by slowing down and obeying all traffic control personnel and signs.
