City still investigating landslide, extends state of local emergency

The state of local emergency has been extended until at least Thursday as the City of Campbell River continues to investigate a landslide on Island Highway South.

The state of local emergency affects the area of Island Highway and Ash Street. The landslide itself affected residents living at 738 Island Highway South.

Geotechnical engineers are working with the city to investigate the slide. The city says under a state of local emergency, it can evacuate residents from the area and officials can enter it as needed.

The city adds this is necessary as the investigation continues.

More information will be provided by the City of Campbell River on its website.
