Former River City hockey player signs two-year deal with Minnesota

Campbell River’s Olivia Knowles has been re-signed with the Minnesota Whitecaps, continuing her pro hockey career.

Knowles, who plays defence, made her professional debut during the past season, playing in the Premier Hockey Federation. She signed a two-year contract this month to continue with the Whitecaps, and the team’s general manager Chi-Yin Tse said they were thrilled to keep her on the roster.

Tse, who has worked with female hockey teams across the USA, said Olivia is one of the most physically and mentally strong players he’s ever met, and her durability and strength on the blue line will help stabilize the team offensively and defensively.

Knowles is 24 years old. She spent her NCAA tenure at the University of Minnesota, serving as captain in her fifth year.
