City implements food and yard waste limit this summer

Starting this week, there will now be a limit on food and yard waste for Campbell River’s curbside collection.

This change comes because of the volumes of yard waste left for pick-up resulting in delays to service, with the city now introducing a 360-litre limit per house per week for the community.

This limit will be used to keep the service of the Organics Curbside Collection program consistent.

Director of Operations Drew Hadfield says the city is committed to providing a strong collection service through these changes.

“Most residents are already well within the 360-litre limit and this change helps ensure that pick-up takes place on schedule throughout the summer for all households in the program,” says Hadfield.

Along with adding food and yard waste to their organics program, City staff is also looking into bringing an additional bag tag system, which would allow residents to purchase additional pick-up capacity.

The changes are in effect as of today.
