The city is holding a series of workshops to help people better understand development on steep slopes, and how to prevent landslides.
This winter, a landslide along Highway 19A did serious damage to an apartment building, forcing residents to evacuate for several days. It’s not the first landslide along the corridor, which sits below a tree-covered bluff.
The workshops at the Community Centre will explain amendments planned for development permits on steep slopes, and how they reflect current knowledge of preventing landslides.
Andy Gaylor, the city’s Director of Community Planning and Livability, says people are welcome to come “learn more about changes that aim to lessen the risk of landslides and support both property owners and the community as a whole.”
