Campbell River city councillor in the spotlight

The controversy is heating up over one city councillor’s plan to attend council meetings via skype and keep his seat on council despite a recent move to Alberta.

An online petition asking for Ryan Mennie’s resignation has about 120 signatures right now and it states, “…what Mennie is doing is not only wrong, but is setting a dangerous precedence.” Mayor Walter Jakeway hinted at the latest City Council meeting there could be a legal challenge being worked on as well.

Mennie meanwhile was in Campbell River this weekend to open the newly upgraded Centennial Park.

Mennie’s term will be up in November when municipal elections are taking place.
Until then Mennie is still expected to get paid over $10,000 by the city.
