Campbell River eager for biggest Canada Day fireworks in BC

Canada Day is going to be a blast in Campbell River tomorrow, especially when the fireworks start at dusk.

Carol Chapman has helped organize the party for the city for years, and says this year will be the best yet.

“Our fireworks this year are going to be the biggest fireworks that we’ve ever had in Campbell River,” she says. “We are actually being able to brag that we are the biggest in the province. We’re very excited about it.

The company doing the fireworks has a fire safety plan and an exemption to the fire ban in place for tomorrow’s show. Fireworks will be launched from a barge in the Johnstone Strait and go off over the water.

The show will open with a First Nations theme including music and colours. The whole display will last about 20 minutes, and will be performed to music.

Chapman says the community has been generous with donations, especially the city, Strathcona Regional District and Quality Foods.

“We need to bring some happiness back to our beautiful country,” she says. “We have really true patriot love for our country and that’s why we’re going to produce a good show for everybody.”

The fireworks will start at 10:22 pm.
