Helping out the homeless in Campbell River will be easier, as a new guide has been released.
Made by the Campbell River Coalition to End Homelessness, the “What Can I Do Guide” was made to give residents ideas to think about on how they can be more engaged with the ongoing crisis.
Stefanie Hendrickson, Coordinator for the Coalition said this guide was made because of emails from the community.
“We were noticing a significant increase in emails from self-described regular community members, who have noticed the homelessness crisis and want to be involved and want to make a difference, but aren’t sure how they can go about doing that,” said Hendrickson.
“So our leadership discussed how we could support folks in feeling more prepared to step forward and contribute in anyways they could by creating this guide.”
The guide has five areas where residents can get involved in, such as volunteering, donating, advocating, staying informed, and voting.
Along with giving people a start on what they can do to show support, she hopes the guide can get people to think about homelessness in a different way.
“I think we are seeing that, certainly with the emails, a lot of them are coming from a compassionate place, they are coming from a place of wanting to learn more, and wanting to understand the whys and the how’s and what is happening,” Hendrickson added. “We are all in this together, and ending homelessness would be a benefit for the entire community, whether you are housed or unhoused, it impacts everybody.”
The guide was officially released earlier this week, with hopes that other community members and agencies will reach out to work on the living document.
