Bear chilling in tree beside McDonald’s drive-thru among spate of new sightings

More bears have been spotted around town in the last few days, including one this morning in a tree beside the downtown McDonald’s drive-thru.

With cold weather coming, black bears are fattening up for their winter hibernation. Mothers and juveniles were recently filmed ambling across Dogwood Street near Rockland Road. Another large male was spotted several times in neighbourhoods bordering the eastern border of the Beaver Lodge Lands.

Others have been seen in the south, near the new neighbourhood under construction by Jubilee Parkway.

BC Conservation says to avoid negative interactions with bears, people should make sure to not put out garbage until the morning of pickup, and to make sure fruit trees are picked and yards are clear.
