Local conservation officer wins provincial recognition for his work

A Campbell River-based conservation officer has been recognized as the provincial Conservation Officer of the Year.

Steve Petrovcic has worked out of the Campbell River region for 20 years. He was recently awarded the 2022 Officer of the Year Award for going above and beyond the call of duty, and for being a good example of the service’s values of integrity, public safety, and protecting the environment.

He’s also being recognized by the BC Conservation Officer Service for building partnerships with First Nations communities in the region.

Petrovcic says his favourite parts of the job are patrolling the Island’s diverse geography and mentoring new officers.
