Ferries Critic says deal to build ferries in Poland is a missed opportunity for BC's economy.

The choice to award a $165 million dollar contract to build 3 new ferries to a Polish company is drawing criticism from the NDP’s Ferries Critic.

North Island MLA Claire Trevena says the choice by BC Ferries represents a missed opportunity to invest that money in BC’s economy.

She says the additional $51 million dollars that will be spent on taxes and import duties is a prime example of money that could be spent creating shipbuilding jobs in the province.

Trevena tabled the Provincial Shipbuilding Act in May, to ensure BC Ferries’ bidding process favors Canadian companies.
