Local schools getting air quality improvements installed

Schools in Campbell River, Sayward and Quadra Island are getting their ventilation systems upgraded, thanks to COVID relief funding.

Federal Minister of Intrastructure Sean Fraser says the ministry is proud to support the projects, and will always back investments “that enable people to send their kids to school knowing they are safe and comfortable.”

Southgate Middle School is getting nearly $460,000 to add new boilers, an energy recovery ventilator, and new controls. Sayward’s elementary-junior secondary school and Quadra Island’s elementary school are sharing more than $500,000 to make the same upgrades, and other related fixes.

The federal and provincial governments are both contributing funds through Infrastructure Canada’s COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream. The federal government is providing 80% while the province is providing the rest.
