Nearly $500K going to rehabilitation trail project in Strathcona Regional District

Nearly $500,000 is going to a rehabilitation project in the Strathcona Regional District.

According to the district, $495,778 will go to the Back Country Horsemen society, a non-profit that plans on enabling a unique camping and trail experience for horse owners and non-motorized users on the North Island.

The money will be used to rehabilitate the salmon Brewster trail corridor, a 40-kilometer multi-use trail that links up to horse camp/recreation sites and extends from the Salmon and Memekay river junction to south Brewster Lake.

District chair Mark Baker says they are proud to access this funding with the society.

The district adds the project will focus on improving trail standards, rehabilitating sections impacted by slides and erosion, putting in drainage and erosion solutions, replacing a bridge, and building a major ravine crossing.

They hope through these improvements, they can provide a safe and sustainable trail within the Sayward Valley forest.
