SRD to hold emergency preparedness events next week

With Emergency Preparedness Week on the way, the Strathcona Regional District is holding events and workshops for the community.

The week runs from May 5 to 11, dedicated to raising awareness on being prepared for any future emergency or disaster.

As part of the week, the district is announcing multiple events and workshops for you to check out.

In the Strathcona Gardens recreation complex, events include prepping your home for a wildfire evacuation on Monday, disaster preparedness for pets on Tuesday, pet evacuation crate handling on Wednesday, and an inclusive approach to emergency planning at home on Thursday.

Board chair Mark Baker says emergency planning is everyone’s responsibility.

“By taking simple steps now, we can all better protect ourselves and our loved ones during times of crisis,” said Baker.

The district says for wildfire evacuation, there will be sessions held in more regional locations throughout the district from Tuesday to Sunday.

Locations include the oyster bay resort, Sayward Village’s Kelsey Centre, Sayward Valley’s Heritage Hall, Tahsis seniors centre, the community hall/Gerry morgan memorial centre in Gold River, Mansons Hall on Cortes Island, and the Quadra Island Community Centre.

For events in the recreation complex, you need to register here.
