City wants feedback on housing plan in open house next week

You can learn more about Campbell River’s housing plan at an open house next week.

The city says they are in the beginning stages of implementing their Housing Accelerator Fund action plan, one that focuses on seven initiatives to increase affordable and available housing, and to lower the barriers of development.

For the project, they received $10.4 million from the federal government, with the money to be used to make 282 housing units in the city.

Mayor Kermit Dahl says they know housing is a pressing concern for the community.

“With support from the Housing Accelerator Fund, the City is working on several actions that will incentivize a variety of housing infill to be added to the community and establish the necessary infrastructure to support Campbell River’s current and future housing needs,” said Dahl.

The city says this project is part of a bigger strategy that hopes to bring 1,200 new units over three years.

As part of the plan, an open house will be taking place for you to provide feedback on some of the initiatives. This includes the Accessory Dwelling Unit Strategy, Missing Middle Zoning Strategy & Infrastructure Readiness, Parking Regulations, and Multi-Family Housing & Transit Oriented Development.

The open house is happening in the Maritime Heritage Centre on May 14, running from 5 to 7 p.m.
