Tofino victims identified

The five people who died when a whale watching boat capsized in Tofino on Sunday have been identified by the B.C. Coroners Service.

They were 63-year-old Nigel Hooker, 50-year-old David Thomas, his son 18-year-old Stephen Thomas, 29-year-old Katie Taylor, and 76-year-old Jack Slater. They were all British nationals.

An Australian man is still missing.

Regional Coroner Matt Brown says their investigation into what happened could take up to a year.

Premier Christy Clark spoke publicly today for the first time since the accident.

She thanked the members of the Ahousat First Nation who were first on scene, and praised the Coast Guard’s quick response.
