Some sobering statistics on the health of Campbell Riverites were presented at city council by the Chief Medical Health Officer for the North Island.

Enns clarified those are prescription, over the counter and illicit drugs; not tobacco and alcohol.

She outlined some local statistics drugs and alcohol use as well.
Enns said Campbell River has the third highest alcohol related mortality rate on Vancouver Island.

She went on to talk about the ways the context in which we live determines health, highlighting how influences such as family income and opportunities, in a child’s life up to age five largely determine a person’s health throughout life.
