Popular fruit-picking program returns, to help reduce food waste

A popular fruit tree gleaning project is back again this year, thanks to Greenways Land Trust.

Homeowners with fruit trees who are unable to harvest them, or just have too much fruit to handle, can volunteer their trees for the project. Volunteers will come and do the harvest work, with the homeowner getting 25% of the bounty, and volunteers also getting 25%. The other half goes to partner organizations in the community, which distribute it to people in need.

The project has been around since 2019, and decreases food waste. It also reduces fruit on the ground that can attract bears and wasps.

For more information, including how to register your tree or sign up to be a volunteer, visit Greenways Land Trust’s project page.
