The road is open again on 4th Avenue, after a large fire early this morning.
The fire was at the Laichwiltach Family Life Society building, a former school now used as a community and education centre.
Firefighters were called out around 3:30 am this morning to the fire, and 4th Avenue was closed as while crews were on scene.
Assistant Chief Stephanie Bremer with the fire department says no one was injured, but crews stayed on site until around 2 pm to make sure all sparks were out.
“Thankfully there are no injuries and no reports of any residences that have been affected by this fire,” she said. “We did do some evacuations of neighbouring homes just for public safety, however we can confirm that the fire was contained to just the one building.”
She said the cause is still under investigation.
School District 72, which owns the building, issued a statement this morning thanking the fire department for the quick response.
“We are committed to assisting the society as they navigate next steps,” the statement says. “CRSD72 stands ready to offer resources or help their recovery so that they can continue their important work within our community.”
